In Tenerife there is a great choice of restaurants, from International cuisine to Spanish food, and of course the restaurants from Tenerife. Among these more local ones, the most appreciated are the ‘guachinches‘.

Tenerife guachinche restaurant

This term, easily heard around by locals, means a very authentic and local restaurant, usually cheap with great home-made food. They have most of the time only one main speciality, although they have enough variety to satisfy any preference: Yes, in the Canaries there are an amazing variety of vegetables, fruit, fish, meat and local desserts too!

The ‘guachinches’ restaurants are likely at the north of the Island. Their origin are commonly associated to the wine production from areas in this northern region: El valle de La Orotava (Orotava Valley), Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza and Tegueste.
