Bull fighting in Tenerife?
January 31, 2007 on 1:35 am | In Santa Cruz, capital, City, Tenerife | No CommentsAs many Spanish councils, the Canarian government has banned all forms of fiestas and sporting events involving bulls. So, if you were wondering if it was possible to see a bullfight here, you won’t see one here on Tenerife or any of the other Canary islands.
In the picture, the old bull-ring in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, converted years ago in an open concert hall, is going to be soon demolished. Only two fronts of the ring will remain, and the center of it will be a public park.

Hidden Tenerife: La Orotava
December 10, 2006 on 12:20 am | In Orotava, Hidden Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz, City, Tenerife | No Comments

The city of La Orotava is probably one of the most beatiful cities in Tenerife. Above, a typical Canary Islands balcony, specially found in La Orotava. At the top-right, the city hall square, where once a year this plaza is covered by the famous carpets of volcanic sands.
This historic city, just a few miles East from Puerto de la Cruz, it is a must if you want to see the real Tenerife.

Below, a picture of ‘casa del turista’ (tourist house). This shop has a great variety of regional products like mojo, honey and gofio.

La Laguna, World Heritage City by Unesco
August 26, 2006 on 10:17 pm | In university, unesco, shopping, airport, capital, History, City, La Laguna, Tenerife | No CommentsLa Laguna city, placed in the north of the Tenerife Island, was founded about 1496 by Alonso Fernández de Lugo. It was the capital of the island after the conclusion of the Spanish conquest of the islands. In the 18th century the capital was moved to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1723. Santa Cruz has since been the capital of the island of Tenerife.
Main spots in La Laguna:
- Historic city-centre. For an interesting cultural visit, we would recommend a walk through the streets of La Laguna; there is so much to see that it is impossible to establish a single route.
- The international airport at Los Rodeos was opened and became the most used airport on the island until Reina Sofía Airport was built in the south of the island.
- The University of La Laguna was founded in 1701, one of the oldest universities in Spain.
- Shopping area. The city has the most attractive European-style shopping district in the Canaries. We offer an alternative to the covered shopping malls of other towns: You can find a wide range of quality outlets, from famous brands to locally produced goods.
In December 1999, Unesco declared the city a World Heritage Site and several streets of historical significance are now closed to automobile traffic.
