Britain’s rainy summer boosts winter sun tourism
July 26, 2007 on 11:29 pm | In News, travel, UK, Weather | No CommentsBudget airline Jet2.com reported a significant increase of tourists to the Canary Islands, as the miserable weather in United Kingdom encouraged more and more Britons to book summer and winter sun holidays.
“The summer has been abysmal in the UK and we have already seen a surge in bookings for package holidays to the sun for the remainder of the summer” said Jet2holidays.com’s general manager, Mandy Round.
“Early bookings figures indicate that there will be a knock-on effect for winter as families who have holidayed in the UK look for cheap winter deals to the sun.”
Among the airline’s deals are week-long breaks to Tenerife from 120 Euro (£79) per person for travel in November. This is based on four people sharing a single bedroom self-catering apartment at the Sand Club Apartments in Golf del Sur, flying from Belfast, Blackpool, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle.
Jet2.com mentions that Tadcaster, Yorkshire averages only 1.6 hours of sun per day and 8 °C (47 °F) in November, while Tenerife has 7 hours and 24 °C (75 °F) (see Tenerife yearly weather)

Los Cristianos
March 14, 2007 on 1:03 am | In Tenerife South, Adeje, Los Cristianos, Weather, Tenerife | No Comments
Los Cristianos, formerly a fishing village, is situated at the extreme south of the Island (Cristianos map), close to the Tenerife South airport. It has a warm climate and its skies are clear nearly all the year around. These climatic characteristics have made it a famous centre for winter tourism, and its hotels and tourist services have undergone a spectacular development. The port of Los Cristianos still houses a small fishing fleet but it has become more important as a morning point for a large number of yachts and sport-boats. It is possible to travel to nearby island of La Gomera by means of the ferries, which make two journeys every day.

Tenerife Tourist Tips - Weather
June 18, 2006 on 10:38 pm | In La Laguna, Clothes, Teide, Tips, Nature, Weather, Tenerife | No CommentsJust a few recommendations related to the weather in Tenerife: As we have so many different microclimates in the Island, it is better to be know in advance a few things:
- Use sunscreen. The easiest way to distinguish a tourist from locals is the colour: Pinks and tanned. If you want to come back with a good colour you may use frequently suncreen, especially in beaches and pools.
- Visiting Teide. If you plan to visit mount Teide, remember it’s about 3718 m (12198 feet): It’s really cold there. No matter how hard you are, shorts and t-shirt won’t be enough.
- Extra clothes. If you travel around the Island, don’t forget to carry a pull-over, the temperature can just drop in a few minutes. In the north side of Tenerife, the area of La Laguna is especially cold.If you want to have a look to the weather in Tenerife over the year (temperature, sun hours, rain fall), just click here.

The eternal spring Island
May 21, 2006 on 6:37 pm | In Weather, Beach, Tenerife | No Comments
Tenerife is internationally known as the eternal spring Island. His geographic location, so close to the African continent makes you think of a more dry and warm weather, but it is not the case due to the Alisios, a wind stream. The local orography and the cold maritime stream is responsible of the fresh temperatures around Tenerife beaches.
In general, the weather in the Island is very soft, warm and moderated during all seasons of the year. There aren’t periods of intense cold or very high temperatures. The average temperature is around 18°C/62°F in winter and it reaches around 25°C/81°F degrees in summer. If you want to see the different average temperatures by month, as well as the precipitation in mm followed by and sun hours, click here.
