Tenerife is composed by 31 counties or municipalities, commonly grouped in three categories:

Metropolitan zone: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, El Rosario, Tegueste.

North zone: Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Ursula, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La guancha, Icod de Los Vinos, Garachico, El Tanque, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte.

South zone: Santiago del Teide, Guia de Isora, Adeje, Arona, Vilaflor, San Miguel de Abona, Granadillade Abona, Arico, Fasnia, Guimar, Arafo, Candelaria.

As a curiosity, Puerto de la Cruz is the smallest county in the Canary Islands with 8.73 Km2. It was before part of La Orotava county, which is the largest municipality (207.31 Km2).
